Davis vs. Evans, Munoz vs. Sonnen Confirmed for UFC on FOX 2
By FCF Staff
The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s second FOX card will feature two pivotal match-ups, as the promotion has announced that former light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans will face rising star Phil Davis, and that Chael Sonnen will battle fellow middleweight contender Mark Munoz. Both bouts will reportedly determine who is the number one contender in their respective divisions.
The January 28th, UFC on FOX 2 card will be hosted by Chicago’s United Center. According to today’s announcement, FOX has allocated two hours for the broadcast.
Sonnen (26-11-1) is coming off a dominant, second round submission win over Brian Stann in October, to rebound from his August, 2010 loss to champion Anderson Silva.
Munoz (12-2) stopped Chris Leben last month at UFC 138 to extend his win streak to four, and position himself near the top of the UFC middleweight division.
Davis (9-0) hasn’t competed since March, when he worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. The undefeated fighter was scheduled to fight Evans in August, but a knee injury forced Davis to withdraw.
Evans (16-1-1) competed just once in 2011 and stopped Tito Ortiz in the second round at UFC 133, who had stepped in for the injured Davis. Evans has won three straight fights since losing the light-heavyweight belt to Lyoto Machida in May, 2009.
The UFC also announced today that it will be holding a press conference on December 7th in Chicago with all four, co-main event competitors scheduled to attend.
