It remains to be seen what comes next for Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya, following their most recent defeats. But, Dricus Du Plessis believes the UFC will look at booking a rematch between the middleweight stars.

Du Plessis defeated Strickland for a second time on Saturday night, as he recorded a clear-cut, decision win over the former champ in the headliner of UFC 312. Following the event, the middleweight champion relayed to the media he’s confident Adesanya – Strickland 2 is on deck (quotes via MMA Junkie.com).

“I know what’s going to happen next,” Du Plessis said. “I can almost guarantee you what’s happening next: Is there any bets that he’s fighting Adesanya next? I just thought of that. … I think the Adesanya rematch will be amazing. That’s what’s going to happen. It’s going to be a Fight Night main event. I know it.”

Adesanya (24-5) was stopped by rising middleweight Nassoudine Imavov earlier this month, which followed his submission loss to Du Plessis in August. The former champ, who lost via unanimous decision to Strickland in September, 2023, has said he’s taking some time to consider his next move.

Strickland (29-7), meanwhile, suffered a badly broken nose in his defeat to Du Plessis this past weekend.

Du Plessis (23-2) is expected to battle undefeated middleweight Khamzat Chimaev (14-0) next.
