Dricus Du Plessis Responds to Khamzat Chimaev’s Impressive Win, Welcomes Fight
By FCF Staff
It remains to be seen who Dricus Du Plessis will fight next. But, it seems clear the UFC’s middleweight champ would welcome a bout with Khamzat Chimaev.
Chimaev faced former champ Robert Whittaker at this past weekend’s UFC 308 card, and submitted the renowned fighter with an opening-round, face crank.
Following the impressive win, Du Plessis (22-2) shared this message via X.
“Feel really sorry for Rob he looked super ready but this is the fight game well done on a good performance Khamzat. That being said I can’t wait to take your 0.“
Prior to UFC 308, UFC CEO Dana White had said Sean Strickland was next for Du Plessis. The latter took the middleweight title from Strickland this past January with a split decision win.
But, following Chimaev’s one sided victory on Saturday, which moved his record to 14-0, White was non-committal about Du Plessis versus Strickland 2. The South African champion has also repeatedly argued that Strickland may not have the best case for another title shot at this juncture.
Strickland (29-6) recorded a decision win over Paulo Costa in June, while Du Plessis submitted former champ Israel Adesanya in his last outing, which took place in August.
