Dustin Poirier Calls For ATT vs. Nick Diaz Academy, UFC Card
By FCF Staff
After a fight between Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier fell apart in 2018, the latter is calling for the match-up to take place this year.
Diaz and Poirier were expected to fight in November, 2018, but a hip injury Poirier incurred sent him to the sidelines. Following Poirier’s submission loss to lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov in September, it remains to be seen when and who the veteran will compete again.
But, while talking to MMA Fighting recently, Poirier made it clear he’s down to fight Diaz in 2020.
“Of course I would love that fight,” Poirier said. “Not just because of the stuff between me and him leading up to that last fight, but he’s a guy coming up I always wanted to fight. I want to fight guys I’m excited to watch fight. Any time Nate Diaz fights, I’m tuning in, I promise you.”
In recent weeks, there’s been talk that Nick Diaz could be next for Poirier’s teammate, Jorge Masvidal. The latter defeated Nick’s younger brother Nate at UFC 245 in November.
As a result, Poirier is calling for a card that would feature ATT vs. Diaz match-ups.
“Let’s do it,” Poirier said. “I train with Jorge, so it makes sense. American Top Team versus the Nick Diaz Academy. They can bring Kron Gracie, we have some 145-pounders who can run it with him. We’ve got Charles Rosa, we’ve got Renato Moicano, we got a squad. I think that would be great.”
The 30-year-old Poirier currently carries a record of 25-6, with 1 no-contest. Prior to facing Khabib, Poirier had gone undefeated in six straight fights.
