Dustin Poirier Fires Back at Michael Chandler: “You’re Not One of Us”
By FCF Staff
After Dustin Poirier recently reported he’s thinking about fighting again, Michael Chandler inferred the UFC lightweight division is ready for him retire, and “The Diamond” didn’t care for the comment.
Following Poirier’s submission loss to champion Islam Makhachev last month, the star said he was leaning towards retirement. But, more recently, Poirier relayed via social media that he wants to fight again, and that prompted Chandler to respond with: “”No thanks” – retire man…we good.”
Poirier was a guest on the latest edition of “The MMA Hour”, and the former interim champ fired back at Chandler for his response (quotes via MMA Fighting.com).
“Who the f*ck is ‘we?!’” Poirier said. “You just go here, buddy. You’re not one of us. You’re not ‘we.’ I’ve been here. ‘We’re good.’ Who’s we? Welcome to the UFC, dude. You’ve got one win in the UFC.
“He’s not one of us. I’ve been cutting my teeth in the UFC since January of 2011, 2010. He just got here. Who is we? He’s speaking for the lightweight division? Muscle Milk Mike needs to chill.
Chandler (23-8) hasn’t fought since November, 2022, when he was submitted by Poirier. The former Bellator champ was booked to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 303 last month, but the latter withdrew due to a broken pinky toe. It’s not clear when and who Chandler will fight next.
Officially, Chandler has recorded two wins in the UFC to date and has gone 2-3 in the Octagon since he joined the UFC in 2021.
Poirier (30-9) also reported in the interview that he’s still interested in fighting again, if it’s an opportunity that excites him.
