Edson Barboza is “100% Happy” With New UFC Deal, Ahead of Latest Fight

Ahead of his 31st pro-MMA fight at UFC 262, Edson Barboza is reporting he received a pay raise in his new, UFC deal.
The 35-year-old fighter was closing in on the end of his UFC contract. But, earlier this year it was reported the dynamic striker had signed a multi-fight extension with the promotion.
Recently Barboza spoke with MMA Junkie, ahead of his May 15 bout with Shane Burgos, and the featherweight had this to say about his new contract.
“I’m 100 percent happy,” Barboza said. “The new contract proves that they enjoy my work. They gave me the number that I want, and I’m very happy with that. I was very motivated to get a bump (in pay), and now I know the UFC enjoys my hard work. They make me very happy.”
The longtime, lightweight contender reportedly did not disclose how much he is being paid now for bouts. But, the report states Barboza’s new deal is for six fights. Barboza’s disclosed pay for his split decision loss to Dan Ige last year was reportedly $79,000.
And while discussing his hopes for UFC 262, and what could come next, Barboza stated:
“If I win this fight hopefully the UFC gives me a top 5 opponent,” Barboza said. “I dropped to 145 to be the champ and I know I have everything to be the champ. It’s not just to fight the fights on this contract. No, I’m here to be the champ and that’s what I’m going to do.”
Barboza (21-9) is coming off a decision win over Makwan Amirkhani in October. Burgos (13-2) dropped a decision loss to Jeremy Stephens in his last fight, which took place last June.
UFC 262 will take place in Houston, Texas.
