EliteXC 2.0 Kicks Off In Hawaii
By Mike Onzuka
EliteXC formally re-launched with a kick-off press conference on Friday. As Head of Operations T. Jay Thompson put it, it’s “EliteXC 2.0.”
The inaugural event is scheduled to take place at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 27. Reagan Penn, the younger brother of BJ Penn, will make his professional debut on the card against an opponent that has not yet been determined.
A relative unknown, but professional boxer Ray Lopez will try to find the easy button on the talented, but knock out prone Andrei Arlovski, who is trying to rekindle the magic he once had as a heavyweight. The key match up on the card could be former UFC and Strikeforce star Joe “Diesel” Riggs against The Ultimate Fighter season three winner and Maui’s own Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove. Riggs owns a KO victory over Grove in Hawaii three years ago admits that they both are very different fighters now, so that past win does not mean any advantage in this upcoming fight.
The Aug. 27 show will be streamed live on Sherdog.com.
Announced Aug. 27 Fight Card:
Andrei Arlovski (15-9) vs. Ray Lopez (5-2)
Kendall Grove (12-9) vs. Joe Riggs (34-13)
Reagan Penn (0-0) vs. TBA
Raquel Pa’aluhi (3-1) vs. Sara McMann (2-0)
Mark Ellis (0-0) vs. Jake Heun (1-0)
