Frankie Edgar’s recent decision to drop down to 145 pounds has paid off in a hurry, as the UFC has announced that the former lightweight champ will fight reigning featherweight champion Jose Aldo on October 13^th. The match-up comes as a result of an injury to Erik Koch, who was originally scheduled to fight Aldo, but has withdrawn due to an injury.

No details regarding Koch’s injury were provided in the UFC statement. UFC 153 will be hosted by the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The 30 year-old Edgar (14-3) made the decision to compete at featherweight after he dropped another tightly contested decision loss to Benson Henderson at UFC 150 in August. Henderson also defeated Edgar by UD in February.

The renowned, 5’6 tall fighter, is 2-2-1 in his last five bouts, with wins coming over BJ Penn and Gray Maynard during that stretch.

The 25 year-old Aldo hasn’t fought since January, when he knocked out Chad Mendes in the first round at UFC 142. Prior to the KO win, Aldo earned a unanimous decision victory over Kenny Florian last October.
