FFC 37: Steve Montgomery Faces Anderson Goncalves in New Main Event
By FCF Staff
Final Fight Championship returns to the Fight Dome this Thursday evening, with mixed martial arts dominating the bill. FFC 37 has a mix of combat sports veterans and young prospects on what proves to be a not-to-be-missed event.
Middleweights and nations collide in the main event, as Brazil’s Anderson Goncalves (11-3) takes on American Steve Montgomery (10-5). Goncalves promises entertainment, with only two of his fourteen fights having gone to the judges’ scorecards. Montgomery returns to action following a two-year hiatus and looks to add to his six knockouts on Thursday night!
The chief support have over one-hundred professional contests between them, as seventy-fight veteran Alonzo Martinez (47-22-1) faces Chicago’s own Mike Santiago (21-12). Martinez holds an impressive twenty-six submission victories on his length record, whilst Santiago looks to return to winning ways following a tough run of opponents such as Zabit Magomedsharipov and Dan Ige.
Croatian light heavyweight Ivan Erslan (6-1) makes his third appearance under the FFC banner as he faces veteran Roger Carroll (18-17). Erslan, who’s recently sparred the likes of Andrei Arlovski and Darko Stosic, is hoping to make a run towards the FFC Light Heavyweight Title currently held by Jeremy Kimball. Carroll has secured seventeen submissions in his eighteen victories, and remains the only man that Neiman Gracie has failed to submit.
Elite prospect Keith Lee (3-3) looks to make a statement in his hometown as he makes his FFC debut against Bellator veteran Justin Linn (7-4). Linn enters familiar surroundings as the underdog against a prospect, having faced Aaron Pico in his last outing. Lee will hope to follow in brother Kevin’s footsteps towards the upper echelons of the sport, as well as adding to his three knockouts.
The card is opened by two men at the opposite ends of their careers, with Jake Albinio (3-4) returning after a near three-year absence to face Alaska’s Kris Berberich (2-4). Albinio, a lifelong wrestler who has recently turned thirty-eight will hope to put on a dominant performance in his hometown. Berberich is seventeen years younger than his opponent, and will hope to put Alaska firmly in the minds of the FFC matchmakers.
