Former Boxing Champ Victor Ortiz Says Paulie Malignaggi Has “Valid Point”, Regarding Sparring Footage Release
By FCF Staff
Paulie Malignaggi has accused Dana White and Conor McGregor’s team of misrepresenting how his second sparring session went with the UFC champ, and fellow boxer, Victor Ortiz, recently weighed in.
Malignaggi has argued that White and McGregor’s camp should release footage of all 12 rounds of the sparring, rather than just a few moments. Ortiz appeared on the latest “UFC Tonight“, and he had this to say, when asked if Malignaggi has a right to be upset (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“Absolutely. Nobody saw the whole session. It’s one of those things. You’ve been clipped in sparring. You step the wrong way and slip. I think it’s a valid point that Paulie is upset.”
The former boxing champ also had this to say, when asked to weigh-in on the upcoming, August 26th bout between McGregor and Floyd Mayweather:
“It’s two different sports. It’s like the champion in tennis vs. the champion in ping pong. They both great in what they do, they have balls and rackets, but they’re very different sports.”
“Don’t let him pressure you or smother you because that’s where he’s comfortable” said Ortiz, while offering advice to McGregor. Floyd is pretty awesome at that.”
Ortiz faced Mayweather in 2011 and was stopped by the undefeated fighter in round four.
