Frankie Edgar to Face Rising Bantamweight Cory Sandhagen Next
By FCF Staff
Following a brief campaign from Conor McGregor and Frankie Edgar to lock-up a fight, it’s being reported the latter will take on rising bantamweight Cory Sandhagen next.
Following Edgar’s (23-7-1) decision loss to featherweight champ Max Holloway in July, the former lightweight champ announced he was dropping to 135. McGregor and Edgar pushed for a bout between the two last month, but UFC President Dana White shot down the proposed match-up.
Now ESPN is reporting that sources have confirmed Edgar will battle Sandhagen in the co-main event of the UFC’s January 25th card in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Sandhagen (12-1) worked his way to a decision win over longtime contender Raphael Assuncao in August.
