Full Contact Fighter’s “The Daily Takedown”: UFC 162 Chris Weidman Buzz Baffling
By Joshua Molina
Chris Weidman is starting to become too much of a good thing.
In interviews everwhere he comes across even more confident than the the slew of MMA fighters predicting he’ll beat Silva.
Now in a published report he says Silva will have to “go through hell” to beat him.
Isn’t it the other way around?
Weidman and the UFC are booking this fight like it’s a worked pro wrestling match. They are building Weidman to be this indestructible challenger coming in to take Silva’s title as if he has a legitimate shot.
But for the smart fans, the UFC can’t have it both ways. Silva is either the best fighter in the UFC who is going to kick through Weidman, or he’s overrated and will meet his match against Weidman.
The fight promotion happening now just doesn’t make sense.
Weidman better be prepared to do whatever it takes to win. He’s talked so much now that he needs to back it up.
If he goes in there overly tentative, Luke Rockhold-style, Weidman’s star will fall faster than his rapid rise.
In big fights, experience matters. The idea that so many credible people are picking Weidman is stunning.
What do they know? What do they see?
This Saturday at UFC 162, we’ll find out. On paper, Weidman won’t last a round with the Middleweight champ.
