The women have arrived in the UFC!

Well, not really.  Liz Carmouche, the other half of the first women’s fight in UFC history, reportedly earned $12,000.

Think about that.

How could the UFC juggernaut pay a main event fighter peanuts, relatively speaking?  Rousey earned a reported $90,000.

By way of comparison, Robbie Lawler, who opened the Pay Per View card, earned $105,000. His opponent Josh Koscheck took home $78,000.

UFC President Dana White always attempts to paint the UFC as a business to keep fighters in line.

For example, he recently blasted Nick Diaz for missing two media appearances. White said he would pull Diaz from his UFC 158 fight against Georges St. Pierre if he missed anymore appearances.

White made the comparison to what happens when you work for a business. The UFC is a business, he said, and if you don’t what you’re told in corporate America, the boss will fire you.

But guess what happens when you pay your top male athlete $250,000, as was the case with Dan Henderson, and your female main-eventer $12,000?

It’s called inequity.

Carmouche will earn a lot more in Pay Per View revenue, but her $12,000 baseline is insane.  Women’s MMA still has a long way to go.
