GFL’s Debut Events Cancelled

By FCF Staff

The Global Fight League’s debut events will no longer take place as scheduled next month, prompting speculation about the future of the new promotion.

The GFL had cards scheduled to take place on May 24th and 25th at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. But, Uncrowned MMA / Yahoo Sports confirmed with the California State Athletic Commission that the events are off.

In addition, GFL founder Darren Owner informed the outlet that the league’s “main investor didn’t fulfill his April obligation,” and while Owner doesn’t expect the events to take place in California, they are working towards rebooking cards for June 15th and 16th.

The GFL initially made headlines on account of its team format and because numerous, veteran fighters and former UFC champions or contenders signed with the promotion. The GFL has said the company plans to allocate 50 percent of revenue it receives with its fighters.
