Gilbert Burns Tells Colby Covington to Sign the “Contract”, Calls For Fight in Miami
By FCF Staff
Following recent, online exchanges with Chael Sonnen, Gilbert Burns has accepted a challenge from Colby Covington.
Recently, Sonnen incorrectly reported that Burns was retiring, and in the fallout, “Durinho” shared out Sonnen’s cell number. Covington, who is a friend of Sonnen’s, reportedly responded to the exchange by calling for a fight with Burns.
Since then, Burns has responded to Covington and accepted his challenge.
The 38-year-old Burns (22-8) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Sean Brady in September. The longtime, welterweight contender has lost three in a row. Burns had won two straight bouts prior to those defeats.
Covington (17-5), who is now 36, is coming off a TKO loss (due to doctor stoppage) to Joaquin Buckley last weekend at UFC Tampa. The former interim champ is 2-3 in his last five fights.
Currently, Burns is ranked #8 in the UFC’s welterweight division and Covington is ranked #9.
