Heavyweight Joey Beltran Released By UFC

Following his first round KO (punches) loss to former Strikeforce heavyweight Lavar Johnson during UFC on FOX 2 on Saturday, Jan. 28, Joey “Mexicutioner” Beltran (13-7) announced on Twitter on Wednesday, Feb. 1 that he has been released from his contractual obligations with the UFC.
“To all my fans, friends, family and supporters I will be back better than ever at a new weight class. Don’t worry about me at all!,” tweeted Beltran.
The 30-year-old Beltran’s defeat at the hands of Johnson marked his second consecutive loss in The Octagon. On Oct. 8, 2011, he lost a unanimous decision to Stipe Miocic at UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard 3.
Beltran’s overall UFC record was 3-4. His last victory in UFC competition came at UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin on June 11, 2011 when he scored a third round TKO (punches) on Aaron Rosa.
