From the event’s promoter  COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — The scenario isn’t that unusual: Two undefeated fighters battling it out for a championship in a no-holds-barred event. What makes the main event of Extreme Challenge 38 special is that the standout fighters are women. Leah Hamilton of Omaha, Neb., and Jennifer Howe of Salt Lake City will both take perfect 3-0 records into the first-ever Extreme Challenge women’s title fight. The 9-bout event is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 16 at Harveys Casino Hotel in Council Bluffs. "I’ve only had a few women’s bouts on my shows and without a doubt these two women have both dominated the competition," said promoter Monte Cox. "It seemed only right that they meet and that the fight be treated the same as if it were a men’s championship bout." Hamilton, 5-foot-4 and 135 pounds, will be the hometown favorite as she lives only miles from Harveys Casino and has won there before. Howe, 5-4 and also 135, will be fighting again after a year-long layoff. Both fighters have excellent submission skills… Hamilton trains at the Steve Jenum school, while Howe trains at the Walt Bayless Academy. The biggest differences between the two women are that Hamilton wrestled on the boys team in high school and has better takedowns… Howe finished third in the National Golden Gloves boxing event for women and is a strong striker standing and on the ground. With the Ultimate Fighting Championship hinting that it may start a women’s division… both girls hope to make a positive impression and move into position for a Pay-Per-View opportunity. Also on the card will be a pair of UFC veterans in Travis Fulton and Nate Schroeder. Fulton, the ironman of NHB from Cedar Falls, Iowa, takes an 80-20-5 record into his feature match against 12-0 Mike Radnov, who now resides in Dallas but is an Omaha native. Schroeder, from Rock Island, Ill., is a member of the Extreme Team and trains with UFC lightweight champion Pat Miletich. He will face Ron Rumpf in another feature bout. Other local fighters competing include: Seam Wilson, Jason Purcell, Vito Agosta, Justin James and Jason Brills of Omaha, and Joe Leggett of Council Bluffs.
