Islam Makhachev Accuses UFC’s Top 15 Lightweights of Dodging Rising Contenders

After recording his sixth UFC win this past Saturday, Islam Makhachev is calling for a bout with a top 15 ranked lightweight. But, the rising fighter believes the division’s top contenders are going to do their best to avoid it.
Makhachev faced Arman Tsarukyan at UFC St. Petersburg, and wrestled his way to a decision win over the very game, newcomer. With the win, Makhachev moved his UFC record to 6-1, and his overall record to 17-1.
Following the victory, the Dagestani fighter had this to say, while discussing who he wants to face next (quotes via MMA Junkie):
“I would like to call out the guys from the top 15 who are afraid to get kicked out of there,” Makhachev said . “Because they fight only between each other, so they don’t get kicked out even if they lose. I urge them to stop being afraid and fight with guys who are not in the top 15.”
The 27-year-old fighter’s only loss to date came against Adriano Martins in 2015, who stopped him in the opening round.
