The New Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy Finally Opens! By Chris Onzuka www.fcfighter.com Well, after almost five months, the new Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy had it’s grand opening on Saturday, May 6th 2000. This new academy came about after a sudden closing of Relson’s "old" academy in December of last year.  For those of you that were not aware, Relson’s previous academy was primarily financed by Relson’s brother, Rorion. And because of that, Relson was "financially tied" to Rorion. For numerous reasons, that academy was closed down and Relson and his crack team of "constructionally-gifted" students jumped into action. They found a new place and built another brand new academy right in the heart of Honolulu. In fact, it is a few blocks away from the home of FutureBrawl and Rage In The Cage, the Blaisdell Arena, not to mention the world famous Ala Moana Shopping Center. Relson welcomed his friends and family, most of which also happen to be his students, into his new academy. He also thanked everyone for being there and sharing his dream of owning his own academy, free from any outside influences. Relson said that this academy was built by his students and for his students. He also made an open invitation to anyone in Hawaii to come on down and train with him. The academy features over 1600 sq. feet of Mancino mats, locker rooms, amongst other things. Relson has big plans for this academy, which include hanging punching bags, pull up bars, and installing showers in the near future.
