Jan Blachowicz Believes Jon Jones is “a Little Bit Afraid” of Tom Aspinall

Jon Jones has repeatedly dismissed the notion that he needs to fight Tom Aspinall, as a means to enhance his legacy, while expressing an interest in fighting Alex Pereira. According to Jan Blachowicz, that’s because “Bones” is certain he matches up much better against “Poatan”.
For months, Jones distanced himself from a fight with the interim heavyweight champ, Aspinall. It wasn’t until after he stopped Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November, that Jones said he would fight Aspinall if the UFC tables a massive financial offer.
Blachowciz recently spoke with MMA Fighting, and while discussing Jones’ interested in fighting Pereira, the former light-heavyweight champ argued there is a strategic reasons behind “Bones'” statements.
“I think [Jon Jones] does this because Alex Pereira is now a big star in the UFC,” Blachowicz said. “Everybody knows him. He knows what he’s doing. But I believe he should fight against Aspinall, but I think he’s a little bit afraid of him.
“Because Aspinall is someone who can really stop him and beat him. I think he believes if he can fight against Pereira, he can take him down, control him, maybe something like this. With Aspinall, it will be not so easy.”
UFC CEO Dana White has insisted that the promotion will get the Jones – Aspinall fight finalized.
Blachowicz, meanwhile, is preparing to fight Carlos Ulberg on March 22nd. The Polish star has not competed since his July, 2023, split decision loss to Pereira. Blachowicz was scheduled to fight Aleksandar Rakić this past January but was sidelined due to shoulder surgery.
