Following his jaw-dropping defeat to Diego Lopes at Noche UFC, Jean Silva has released a statement, in which he also acknowledged the recent losses for his team.

Silva headed into Saturday’s contest riding a 13-fight winning streak, and has been one of several success stories for “The Fighting Nerds” team. After being punished and controlled on the ground in round one, Silva proceeded to land notable strikes of his own in round two. Later in the round, however, Silva was floored by a spinning back elbow and the fight was stopped moments later.

The defeat was “The Fighting Nerds” third in a week, as members Caio Borralho and Mauricio Ruffy incurred losses at UFC Paris. Since Saturday’s card, Silva posted a video statement in which the Brazilian spoke Portuguese (translations via Championship Rounds).

“Unfortunately, yesterday the emotion got the better of me. I was seeing well in the second round, but I ended up rushing in with everything…

One thing you guys were right about: The Fighting Nerds lost three in a row. So the three of us must be making similar mistakes.

So for sure, me, Caio and Ruffy will have a meeting. We’ll figure this out and improve. Whether people like it or not, I’m sorry. But we’ll be back.”

The 28-year-old Silva saw his record fall to 16-3 with the defeat.
