Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks Amongst Several UFC Additions

By FCF Staff

After weeks of speculation as to who perennial welterweight contender Jon Fitch (pictured) will fight next, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced this afternoon that the veteran will take on Johny Hendricks, December 30th, at UFC 141.

The bout will be Fitch’s (23-3-1) first since February, when he battled former champion BJ Penn to a draw at UFC 127. The two were scheduled for a rematch at UFC 132 in July, however, injuries prevented the bout from materializing.

The draw with Penn ended Fitch’s five fight win streak, after the AKA fighter lost by unanimous decision to champion Georges St. Pierre in August, 2008.

Hendricks (11-1) last competed in August and worked his way to a split decision over Mike Pierce. The decorated wrestler’s only defeat took place in December, 2010, when Hendricks lost by UD to Rick Story.

UFC 141 will be hosted by MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and will feature Alistair Overeem versus former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar in the main event.

This coming Saturday’s Fight Night card in New Orleans has a last minute change, as the UFC has confirmed that Daniel Roberts will no longer compete due to an injury. Jeff Curran student Mike Stumpf (8-2) has agreed to step in on short notice and fight TJ Waldburger (13-6) at the September 17th event.

The UFC also confirmed this afternoon that Eric Schafer (12-5-2) is making his return to the promotion, as the veteran will step in for the injured Nick Catone to fight middleweight Aaron Simpson (10-2), October 8th at UFC 136 in Houston.

And, in another middleweight confirmation, the UFC has announced that newly signed French fighter Francis Carmont (16-7) will take on Chris Camozzi (15-4) October 29th at UFC 137 in Las Vegas.
