Jon Jones’ Coach Doesn’t See Any More Short Notice Opponents in His Future

Although Jon Jones won every round against Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197, his coach doesn’t see any more short notice opponents in “Bones'” future.
OSP stepped in on short notice for light-heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier a few weeks ago, after the latter injured his leg. Jones went on to earn a UD victory over Saint Preux, but many observers believe the former champ looked off in the fight. It was the first time Jones had fought since January, 2015, when he decisioned Cormier.
Recently Jones’ wrestling coach, Izzy Martinez, spoke with UFC commentator Brian Stann on his Sirius XM Rush Radio show. According to a follow up report from MMA Fighting.com, Martinez said the following about Jones’ performance Saturday.
“I just think Jonny was…he’s a programmed fighter so it’s kind of crazy with Jon. We were okay with him taking the fight but I don’t think Jon Jones will ever take a short notice fight again because there are too many variables that we didn’t prepare for. When you’re so focused on one person, and then you get a different person, you know it’s tough.”
Jones has been rebooked to fight Cormier at UFC 200, which will take place on July 9th in Las Vegas.
