Jon Jones’ next fight hasn’t been booked yet, but, the decorated fighter is reporting negotiations with the UFC are underway for his Octagon return.
Leading up to Jones’ bout with Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 earlier this month, the heavyweight champ repeatedly said the fight would likely be his last. But, following his impressive stoppage of Miocic, Jones said he was interested in fighting again provided the UFC tables a substantial pay raise. “Bones” stressed that while discussing the possibility of a fight with interim heavyweight champ, Tom Aspinall, which Jones had said he wasn’t interested in facing.
More recently, the 37-year-old spoke with The Schmo. While discussing his future, Jones reported talks are underway with the UFC (quotes via MMA Fighting.com).
“So right now, the UFC and I, we’re in negotiations. We’re in talks to see what happens next. I’m back in the gym, I’m training, I feel really great. The team’s support, they’re right behind me, and we’ll just be ready for whatever opportunity comes our way.
“There is [a dollar amount in mind], but I’m not going to discuss that publicly. We’ll just have to wait and see. … I will be competing in 2025, more than likely.”
Jones (28-1) won the heavyweight title in March, 2023, by quickly submitting Ciryl Gane. The former light-heavyweight champ has competed just three times since 2019.
