Following the news that Jon Jones has been notified by USADA of a potential doping violation, the light-heavyweight champ’s management team has released a statement.
On Tuesday, USADA announced that the failed a drug test is from a sample that was taken from Jones, one day prior to his July 29th, stoppage win over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. The statement from Jones’ management is below (via MMA Fighting):
We are all at a complete loss for words right now. Jon, his trainers, his nutritionists and his entire camp have worked tirelessly and meticulously the past 12 months to avoid this exact situation. We are having the samples tested again to determine the validity or source of contamination. Jon is crushed by this news and we are doing whatever we can as a team, to support him.
Jones recently completed a one year suspension he received from USADA, as a result of a positive test for clomiphene and Letrozol last year. Jones’ team were able to show that a sexual enhancement pill he had taken was contaminated with the banned substances, but the renowned fighter is now facing a multi-year suspension.
