Jorge Masvidal Asks UFC to “Give” Him Leon Edwards in Octagon Return
By FCF Staff
It’s been over six years now since Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards had their well-documented incident in London. But, “Gamebred’s” still hoping to settle the score in the Octagon.
Masvidal (35-17) hasn’t been booked for his next UFC fight yet, after he announced last year that he is planning to compete in MMA again. Following his decision loss to Gilbert Burns in April, 2023, the former welterweight contender announced he was retiring from MMA. Masvidal went to box Nate Diaz in 2024 and lost that fight via decision.
More recently, the 40-year-old spoke with Submission Radio. While discussing his Octagon return, Masvidal proceeded to propose a showdown with Edwards (quotes via MMA Junkie.com).
“If the UFC wants to make this happen, give me the Leon fight, and then after that, I’ll fight whoever has that damn belt. I know Dana (White) is probably going to see this.”
Masvidal and Edwards briefly scuffled backstage at an event in London in March, 2019. The two were booked to fight in December, 2021, but Masvidal had to withdraw due to an injury.
“In every way, shape, or form,” Masvidal also stated while discussing Edwards. “I know for one thing, he can’t wrestle me for five rounds. So, I don’t have to worry about the takedowns, and I know on the feet, he’s fragile compared to me.“
Edwards (22-5) was recently submitted by Sean Brady in the fourth round of their bout, which marked the first time “Rocky” had competed, since he lost the welterweight title to Belal Muhammad last July.
