Jorge Masvidal Outlines Why it Would “be Awesome” to Fight Leon Edwards
By FCF Staff
After Leon Edwards defeated Donald Cerrone at UFC FN 132, he proceeded to call out Jorge Masvidal, and it looks like the veteran is pretty interested in the match-up.
Edwards worked his way to a decision win over Cerrone, in what served as the main event for the Singapore card. Following the bout, the British welterweight named Masvidal, while discussing who he wants to fight next.
Since then, MMA Junkie spoke with the ATT fighter, and here’s some of what Masvidal had to say about facing Edwards:
“The bigger the names, the better,” Masvidal said. “At this stage in my career, I only want top-10 guys, or the closest thing to get me to the title. I don’t think Leon Edwards is quite there, but it’s a fight, and it’s competition. The guy’s obviously skilled and on a big win streak, so it would be awesome to get the fight.
“I don’t see (Neil) Magny, No. 7 or whatever the (expletive) (expletive) ranking he has behind him, I don’t see him stepping in any time soon, so I’m not going to keep waiting for fantasy matchups that are never going to happen. So if it’s Leon Edwards, Leon Edwards it is.”
Masvidal is coming off decision losses to Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia, which followed a three fight winning streak.
The welterweight also noted that a bout in September would be “good for me.”
