Jorge Masvidal Praises Kamaru Usman’s “Beautiful Technique”
By FCF Staff
Jorge Masvidal has feuded with Kamaru Usman for some time now. But that hasn’t stopped ‘Gamebred’ for crediting the welterweight champ on how he finished him at UFC 261.
Masvidal faced Usman for the second time last Saturday night, and in the second round, he was sent crashing to the floor by a booming right hand. Usman proceeded to land several more shots from above, before the fight was called.
In a follow-up interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Masvidal had this to say about the fight’s finishing sequence (quote via MMA Junkie).
“I look at it, and I’m like ‘Wow, perfect timing. That misleading – I thought he was going in for a shot, and when I realized it wasn’t a shot, it was too late. I was throwing my check left hook, but it was already too late. I read the information wrong, so he sold it to me beautifully, and that’s why he got those results.”
“In that moment right there, I am a fan because I love the sport so much, and it was just beautiful technique,” Masvidal said.
The defeat dropped the 36-year-old Masvidal’s record to 35-15. Last July, Masvidal agreed to fight Usman on just days notice and lost the bout via unanimous decision.
