Jorge Masvidal Will “Never Rule Out” Fighting Again
By FCF Staff
Jorge Masvidal remains a retired fighter, but the former welterweight contender won’t rule out a return to the cage.
The 38-year-old Masvidal announced he was hanging up the gloves this past April, following his decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. The defeat was Masvidal’s fourth straight.
But, while speaking with media this past weekend at his Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA card, Masvidal reported a comeback could materialize (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“I’ll never rule out coming back,” Masvidal said. “I did MMA at a professional level for 20 years, and it’s all I know. So I’ll never say I’m not coming back.”
Masvidal (35-17) was long regarded as one of the UFC’s most underrated fighters, before he leaped into stardom, following big wins over Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz.
The victory over Diaz in 2019, however, turned out to be Masvidal’s last. “Gamebred” was defeated by now-former welterweight champ Kamaru Usman in back-to-back fights, and losses to Colby Covington and Burns also followed.
“As of right now, the way that my reflexes are and just my body is aged, I don’t think I can compete with the five best in the world right now,” Masvidal said. “And that’s what I signed up to do in MMA, is go against the best in the world. I’ll never rule it out. I love fighting more than anything.”
In addition to bare knuckle bouts, Masvidal also promotes boxing and MMA fights.
