Kevin Lee: Tony Ferguson Rematch “Makes Sense From All Angles”
By FCF Staff
It remains to be seen who Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee fight next. But, the latter believes a rematch with ‘El Cucuy’ is the fight to make.
Lee faced Ferguson for the UFC’s interim lightweight title back in 2017 and was submitted by the longtime contender in round three. Ferguson went on to win his next two fights, but more recently, the 37-year-old has dropped consecutive bouts to Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira.
The 28-year-old Lee, meanwhile, has gone 2-3 since his fight with Ferguson. Due to injuries, the well-rounded fighter hasn’t fought since March, 2020, when he was submitted by Oliveira.
Recently Lee (18-6) spoke with MMA Junkie, and while discussing his hopes for his return bout, he said this.
“That’s what they do in boxing – you ease your way back in. But the way I’m feeling, I don’t think it’s necessary,” Lee said. “I’m going to fight Tony Ferguson. I think that fight makes sense from all angles. I don’t see anybody else that’s out there for him to fight.
“It just makes sense and it puts us back where it should be. A fight with me and him is going to kind of show one of us has to win, one of us is going to have to leave. So that’s a fight that interests me this summer. We’ll see what he talking about on his end, but he’s No. 1 in my book .”
Lee, who is returning from ACL surgeries in both legs, also reported that he’s around “80%” recovered.
