Khabib Nurmagomedov Takes Responsibility For UFC 209 Withdrawal, Discusses Possible Return Date
By FCF Staff
After being forced to withdraw from a highly anticipated bout with Tony Ferguson last month, Khabib Nurmagomedov says he’s at fault for the unfortunate turn of events.
Ferguson and Nurmagomedov were supposed to fight in the co-headliner of UFC 209, and for the interim lightweight title. But, Nurmagomedov ran into medical issues while attempting to make weight, and was hospitalized as a result.
Recently the undefeated fighter spoke with RT Sports, and while doing so, Nurmagomedov said this (quote via MMA Mania):
“…Now I need a couple of months. Like two or three months. After three months I come for hard training and I want to fight in September”
“I think this is my fault, this is my fault. I know that (my) body don’t listen to me and I think, I know, this is my fault,” he added. “How can I say that this is the coach’s fault or the diet guy’s fault? This is 100% my fault.”
Ferguson has said he’s still interested in fighting Nurmagomedov, but he’s also relayed he wants “assurances”, in case the latter has to withdraw again.
