Khamzat Chimaev’s Manager: “Persistent Illness” Led to His Withdrawal From Robert Whittaker Fight
By FCF Staff
Following the news that Khamzat Chimaev will no longer fight Robert Whittaker next weekend, his manager has shared out a statement regarding what led to his withdrawal.
On Thursday, UFC President Dana White announced that Chimaev has been battling a severe illness and will not face Whittaker on June 22nd as scheduled. Instead, Ikram Aliskerov has been moved into the headlining slot.
Since then, Chimaev’s manager, Majdi Shammas, posted the statement below, which notes the undefeated fighter has been hospitalized more than once during his training camp.
The 30-year-old Chimaev (13-0) also dealt with significant health issues in 2020 and 2021 after contracting COVID-19.
