Leon Edwards Reports he Was Offered Title Shot Before Gilbert Burns
By FCF Staff
On Tuesday, the UFC announced that Gilbert Burns is going to challenge welterweight champ Kamaru Usman next. But, since that news broke, Leon Edwards has reported he was offered the fight first.
Burns has been booked to fight Usman at the July 11th, UFC 251 card, which is taking place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. After the match-up was announced, Edwards (18-3) tweeted out this.
For those asking, yes I got offered the shot before Gilbert. We couldn’t make it work this time. 2020 has been tough for me on this side of the world, as it has been for alot of people, but fuck it, you cant stop what is inevitable.

The 28-year-old British fighter has won eight straight fights. The last person to defeat Edwards is Usman, who recorded a decision win over the welterweight in 2015.
