M-1 Global has confirmed that the promotion’s upcoming, October 14th “Guram vs. Garner II” event will be hosted by the Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, and will be broadcast on Showtime beginning at 11:00PM.
The October 14th card will feature a heavyweight bout between champion Guram Gugenishvili and challenger Kenny Garner in the main event.
Gugenishvili (11-0) submitted Garner with a second round, guillotine choke in their first meeting last October. Since then the champion has gone on to tap out Maxim Grishin in March, while Garner (7-3) has scored stoppage wins over Danny Lockhart and Pat Bennett.
“I always said I’d get another chance to claim my belt!” Garner was quoted saying in the news release. “I made a mistake in my last fight with Guram and I know it. It cost me my title. This time out – no mistakes! This is my opportunity to chase down my belt. I’ve been training hard and I’m not losing to Guram; he’s not making it out of the first round.”
The M-1 Challenge event will also feature accomplished BJJ practitioner and light-heavyweight champion Vinny Magalhaes (8-5) versus Russian veteran Mikhail Zayats (14-5).
Magalhaes has won four straight and is coming of a submission win over Viktor Nemkov in April, while Zayats is also riding a four fight win streak and stopped Malik Merad in his last outing.
