Rory MacDonald may have scored the biggest win in his career to date at UFC on FOX 8, by earning a unanimous decision win over Jake Ellenberger, but the highly anticipated fight fell rather short in terms of expectations.

After the conservative and uninspiring fight, which saw MacDonald earn the win as a result of landing more strikes, the 24 rising welterweight told FUEL TV:

“I did everything I have to do. I don’t really make a game plan, I react to what I see. Tonight I saw a power puncher who I kept on the outside with the jab and he wouldn’t engage me.”

“It doesn’t change my outlook I’m focused on my target,” MacDonald said when asked about the boos the bout received. “At the end of the fight I got him on his back, which was a dangerous position. Another 30 seconds and I could have finished the fight.”

And what did UFC President Dana White think of the fight? Which featured the #3 ranked welterweight in MacDonald versus the #4 positioned Ellenberger?

“It was terrible fight. I think if you go out there and if you want to prove you’re one of the best, and your opponent tells you you’re not in the top 10 in the world, and then you don’t do anything to prove him wrong, it shows. Robbie Lawler went out and made an impression. I thought Jake Ellenberger did nothing at all. He tried to do nothing, and so Rory stood on the outside and did just enough to win, but he didn’t try to impose his will on Ellenberger or go for the finish or submit him.”

The victory was MacDonald’s fifth straight since he was stopped by fellow contender Carlos Condit at UFC 115 in June, 2010.
