Max Holloway Confirms He’s “Done With 145”
By FCF Staff
After coming up short in his latest bid to reclaim the UFC’s featherweight crown, former champ Max Holloway has announced his days fighting at 145 are over.
The legendary fighter faced current featherweight champ Ilia Topuria at UFC 308 last month and was knocked out in the third round. Since then, there’s been extensive speculation regarding the future of Holloway and whether he might move up to lightweight, permanently.
In a recent video that went up on Holloway’s YouTube channel, the soon to be 33-year-old announced he is moving up to 155 and will no longer fight at featherweight (quote via MMA Fighting.com).
“You guys saw me kind of touch upon it at the press conference and I can honestly say I think I’m done with 145. Your boy, like I said, we’re only getting older. I’ve done 33 [fights], this cut was easy, bro… but it takes a toll cutting weight, period, at whatever weight you are. Like I said, I had to give up ramen for my [featherweight] camps, so I’m done with that. I don’t ever want to give up ramen again. 155, here we come and 155 is where I want to stay.”
Holloway (26-8) was coming off an electrifying knockout of lightweight contender Justin Gaethje in April before facing Topuria. That victory was the Hawaiian star’s third straight, following his third loss to former featherweight champ, Alexander Volkanovski in July, 2022.
