Vitoria Extreme Fight 1 Results: By Eduardo Alonso The beautiful city of Vitoria, located near Rio de Janeiro in the state of Espirito Santo, in Brazil, received its first taste of quality MMA action as yet a new promotion debuted in the country this past Saturday, May 29th. Vitoria Extreme Fight [in addition to being the name of the city, the word "vitoria" means "victory" in Portuguese,] featured two 4-man tournaments, one for middleweights and the other for heavyweights, as well as three single matches, mostly involving local heroes, such as Jiu-Jitsu standout Eduardo Jamelao in the main event. However, most of the excitement didn’t come from the single matches, as the tournaments gave local fans a true taste of MMA action. In the middleweight tournament, Nova Uniao fighter Thalles Leite, despite his lack of mixed martial arts experience, surprised many by submitting UFC veteran Flavio Moura in the first round, advancing to the finals where he also dominated Lucio Linhares, from Alliance, becoming the first ever Vitoria Extreme Fight middleweight champion. In the heavyweight tourney, K-1 Brazil runner up Eduardo Maiorino managed to use his striking skills and ring experience to secure the title. After connecting with a high kick to KO opponent Chico Mello in his first match, Maiorino got the nod in a close decision against a brave Danilo "Motoserra," where his superior stand-up technique made the difference as he became the heavyweight champion. All in all it’s great to see more quality shows appearing in Brazil, and the promoters are planning the second edition of the show for October. Here are the results from all the fights: Middleweight Tournament: Semi-Finals: Final: Heavyweight Tournament: Semi-Finals: Final: Single Matches: |
