Media Watch: Learning From Experience, Cung Le is Training Smarter

Cung Le

Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le looks to earn his first victory inside the UFC octagon this weekend against Patrick Cote at UFC 148.

Le didn’t have a merry welcome to the UFC’s middleweight division, when he faced Wanderlei Silva at UFC 139 and was finished via TKO.

Le claims he learned from the higher expectations of fighting in the UFC, and was able to make adjustments during his fight camp leading up to UFC 148.

In a recent interview with MMAWeekly.com, Le had this to say:

“I think the biggest thing that affected me was I  wasn’t used to the heavy pounding.  It wasn’t during the fight that affected me, it was during training camp.  Training with bigger guys like King Mo and all the good fighters over there at AKA, you get banged up.  It seemed like I was getting injured every other week.  So definitely, that was the biggest part in being healthy for the fight.”

I don’t think it matters what kind of training Le had for this fight – I picked Franklin to beat him before Ace replaced Vitor Belfort, and I expect Cote to finish Le sometime during their fight.  Le is a striker that needs to find his range, and Cote is a heavy-handed striker that will be able to find Le’s chin at some point during their three-round middleweight showdown.

Outside of fighting in the cage, Le has become rather successful acting in Hollywood – and some have questioned his motivation.  I fully believe he’s going to come into the fight ready to go, but I wonder if that will be enough for him.
