Mike Pierce Moves in to Fight Josh Koscheck at UFC 143

By FCF Staff

Changes to the upcoming Februray 4th, UFC 143 card in Las Vegas continue, as the promotion has confirmed that Mike Pierce will step in for Carlos Condit and fight Josh Koscheck. The news comes shortly after Condit was moved into an interim welterweight title fight with Nick Diaz, following champion Georges St. Pierre’s withdrawal from the card due to a knee injury.

Pierce (13-4) is coming off a split decision victory over Paul Bradley at UFC on FOX 1 in November, after losing by split decision to Johny Hendricks at UFC 133 in August. The former NCAA Division 1 wrestler is 5-2 in the UFC to date, with his only other defeat coming versus Jon Fitch.

Koscheck (16-5) will be looking to build on his first round knockout out Matt Hughes at UFC 135 in September, which marked the fighter’s only appearance of 2011. At UFC 124 last December, Koscheck incurred a broken orbital bone during his unanimous decision loss to St. Pierre, and spent much of the year on the sidelines as a result.

The UFC has also confirmed that bantamweight Scott Jorgensen will fight Renan “Barao” Pegado at the Super Bowl weekend event.

In Jorgensen’s (13-4) last outing, he scored a unanimous decision win over Jeff Curran in October, while Barao (27-1) is coming off a first round, submission win over Brad Pickett in November.

UFC 143 will be hosted by The Mandalay Bay Events Center.
