New Global Fight League Announced, to Feature Multiple, Former UFC Champs
By FCF Staff
A new team-based MMA organization, the Global Fight League, has announced it will begin holding cards in April, 2025 and that the league has signed multiple, former UFC champions.
On Wednesday, Darren Owen appeared on the “Ariel Helwani Show” to announce the GFL and the company also released an introduction video.
The league will initially consist of 6 teams across four continents. Each team will have 20 fighters. Similar to the now-defunct, International Fight League, teams will compete through a regular season and then a playoff format.
According to a slide that the GFL released (slide via MMA Fighting), the organization has already signed multiple, established fighters. This includes former UFC champs like Tyron Woodley, Fabricio Werdum, Anthony Pettis, Junior dos Santos, Luke Rockhold, Andrei Arlovski, Frank Mir, and Benson Henderson.
The league will reportedly operate with a 50/50 percent revenue-sharing model and will have a fighters association led by Marlon Moraes.
Similar to the Professional Fighters League, points will be awarded based on the fight’s outcome. For example, a finish will award the team four points.
No information on the specific locations for the teams has been announced yet. The company plans to meet with broadcasters in early 2025 in an effort to secure a broadcasting deal. Owen confirmed, however, the league will have its own streaming capacity via its own platform.
The league’s draft will take place on January 24th.
