Tuesday, June 6 — After a yearlong break from fighting, Evan Tanner will be returning to action on July 8, along with the return to Amarillo, Texas, of the USWF (Unified Shoot Wrestling Federation) from a hiatus of its own. Evan will be defending his USWF heavyweight title against Raoul Romero, a kickboxing and vale tudo champion from Mexico. Evan will also tell us about his new jobs: owner and president of the USWF. Also, we speak with Mario Mercado, a standout wrestler at Syracuse, currently assistant wrestling coach at NYU, and the guest of honor at last week’s Midwood High School Wrestling Awards Dinner in Brooklyn. Mario will be making his submission grappling debut on June 17 against Ricardo Almeida at the Kimono Kombat Sport Jiu Jitsu Championships, at County College of Morris, in Randolph, New Jersey. Wednesday, June 7 — This is a travel day, as we go to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for UFC XXVI on Friday, June 9. We will repeat the show of Friday, June 2, which featured in the first hour Pedro Rizzo telling us how he hopes to capture the UFC heavyweight title this Friday; in the second hour Sean Shelby of Grappler’s World (http://www.grapplersworld.com) talking with us about the stepped up campaign to end cable censorship of mixed martial arts events; and in the third hour UFC heavyweight champion Kevin Randleman talking about his title defense. Thursday, June 8 and Friday, June 9 — Both days we will do live shows from the Five Seasons Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Thursday will feature a live webcast of the UFC XXVI press conference, and both days will have plenty of on-the-spot interviews with fighters and insiders from the world of mixed martial arts. These live remotes promise to be the most comprehensive and up-to-date preview of UFC XXVI anywhere. |
