ONE FC Announces Adoption of PRIDE Rules Soccer Kicks
By FCF Staff
ONE FC has announced that competitors will be able to utilize soccer kicks at all times, and that its “open-attack” rules, which prompted much debate and confusion at its latest event, have been eliminated.
The promotion announced that it has adopted PRIDE rules regarding head kicks to a downed opponent via Twitter.
Previously fighters were only allowed to use soccer kicks once they had been granted permission to launch an “open attack” by the referee.
At the promotion’s August 31st “Pride of a Nation” event, a heavyweight tilt between Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia was declared a no contest, after Arlovski kicked the downed Sylvia in the head without receiving permission. Sylvia was unable to continue after the blows.
Soccer kicks are not allowed under the Unified Rules of MMA, which are used by most organizations including the UFC, Strikeforce, and Bellator.
ONE FC’s next event is scheduled for October 6th in Singapore.
