In the past, you may have read about FCF reporter Marc Scott’s journey to Thailand where he trained and fought Muay Thai. Ever the world traveler, Marc is currently on a new quest, this time to beautiful Brazil, where he will "drink from the source" at the new Gracie Camp… Part Four & Final: Rio De Janeiro Rio is gone now, or at least I am gone, and to the best of my knowledge Rio is still there. Ten days anywhere is not enough to truly say you can understand a city and I feel as if I had a only a slight taste of what Rio and Brazil had to offer. The training is all over now and I will return to my regular training with my friends and coach, I will no longer be called the gringo and singled out of the group by my lack of Portuguese and minimal skill in Jiu-Jitsu. After ten days I am happy to be able to come home and see my girlfriend and try to make what I learned during my trip work on the mat. It is hard to judge just how much I have learned or how much I will retain, only in the days to come will I be able to see what I will remember. Amazingly after ten days of the Gracie diet I have put almost ten pounds on, the four large meals a day seem to have filled out my waistline yet I have more energy than I may have ever had in my life, the constant fruit, vegetables and fish seem to have cleaned my system, a cleansing which will not last long as I already feel the urge to hit the bars and wash away the good living with margaritas and steak. On my last day in Rio we went to the famous Corcovado monument of Christ on the hill, a symbol of Brazil. As I stood on the hill over looking Rio, I said my goodbyes but knew I would soon be back. |
