Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire continues to train, after being pulled from Bellator 249 last month due to medical issues. But, the fighter is reporting doctors still aren’t sure what led to the symptoms he experienced.
The Brazilian fighter was booked to face Jaleel Willis on October 15th. But, a few hours before the fight Freire experienced vertigo-like symptoms and he was pulled from the contest.
While in Uncasville this week alongside his brother Patricio for Bellator 252, Freire provided an update on his condition (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“Two years ago I had a fight and a similar thing happened,” Freire said, in an interview partially done in English and partially via an interpreter. “It was strong but not quite as strong. It comes and goes, dizzy some days and not dizzy others. Pretty much. I haven’t been diagnosed with anything but it snuck up on my pretty quickly.”
“…I’m continuing to train and stay in shape,” Freire also reported. “I’m weighing 170 pounds, trying to keep my weight down and stay fight ready. I don’t know when my next fight will be but I am continuing to stay in shape in case something comes up.”
The 34-year-old Freire (23-9) hasn’t fought since New Year’s Eve when he lost via decision to Tofiq Musayev in RIZIN’s lightweight grand prix final. That same night ‘Pitbull’ KO’d Luiz Gustavo in the semifinals.
