Patricky Freire Tells Dustin Poirier to “Come to Bellator”, Following Dana White’s Comments
By FCF Staff
Following comments from Dana White, in which he claimed Dustin Poirier isn’t interested in fighting Tony Ferguson, Patricky Freire is telling “The Diamond” to sign with Bellator.
Recently Poirier reported that the will not be fighting Ferguson on October 24th as hoped, since he couldn’t come to terms with the UFC for the all-star match-up.
Following the lastest Dana White Contender Series card, White was asked to comment on the situation, and he claimed the following (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“Listen, I like Dustin,” White said. “I’m not going to sit up here and say anything negative about Dustin, he’s a great kid. I don’t know if it was he didn’t want to fight in Abu Dhabi or what his deal was – he didn’t want to fight.
“Listen, there’s a lot of different ways to turn down a fight. Negotiating yourself out of one is one of the ways you can do it. So for whatever reason, he didn’t want to take this fight. Only he knows that.”
Since Poirier said he was interested in fighting Ferguson, and due to who the former interim champ has fought, White’s comments sparked blowback online.
Poirier was quick to repeat that he wants to fight Ferguson, and Freire tweeted out this.
“Imagine how cool MMA would be if when a promoter doesn’t value their fighters they could go offer their talents elsewhere,” Freire wrote. “Come to @BellatorMMA, @DustinPoirier. I’m sure they’ll make you feel appreciated and pay you what you deserve. And then we can fight.”
