Paulie Malignaggi Says he Should Lose Portion of Fight Purse, if he Couldn’t Stop Conor McGregor
By FCF Staff
It doesn’t look like Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi are going to box anytime soon, but if they do, the latter’s extremely confident he’d stop the UFC champ.
Prior to McGregor’s stoppage loss to Floyd Mayweather, there was speculation as to whether he might box Malignaggi next, on account of the latter’s highly publicized split form the star’s camp. But, now that Mayweather – McGregor is over, there’s been more talk about the lightweight champ possibly fighting Nate Diaz for a third time.
That doesn’t mean, however, that Malignaggi isn’t still fielding questions about boxing McGregor. During a recent episode of “The MMA Hour”, the retired boxer had this to say (quote via MMA Fighting):
“Conor gets stopped by me,” Malignaggi said. “If Conor doesn’t get stopped by me, I should get penalized at least a portion of my purse if I don’t stop this guy.”
“After a few rounds, the problem is Conor has no backup plan,” Malginaggi added. “This might just be that he hasn’t boxed for a long time. That’s not so many layers to him. The layers has has are just the ones you see.
“…I think once you get the hang of it, once you get the hang of what Conor is doing, you start to break him. And as I’ve said from the start, this guy is not the bravest guy in the world. There’s a lot of punk in this guy…”
Malignaggi did, however, credit McGregor for starting strong against Mayweather. Many observers, including one judge, had McGregor winning the first three rounds against Mayweather on August 26th.
