Following Paulo Costa’s admission that he weighed over 210 pounds, just days out from UFC Vegas 41, it’s being reported his bout with Marvin Vettori will proceed at a catchweight.

Costa was booked to fight Vettori at middleweight in Saturday’s main event. But, while speaking to the media Wednesday, the contender reported he weighed around 211 pounds.

The former title challenger also said he did not intend to attempt cutting down to 185 pounds.

Since then, ESPN has reported that the UFC is working on finalizing a new weight for the fight. That weight, however, has yet to be determined. During an interview with ESPN on Wednesday, both fighters verbally agreed to fight at 195 pounds.

While Vettori appears willing to fight Costa at a new weight, the contender also said this in the aforementioned interview.

“It just shows he’s not elite,” Vettori said. “If he was elite, he’d be showing up at the right weight and he’d make sure the main event happens. By doing this, he’ll bring so many problems to the table. The fight is this close to being scratched. This is not what I go by.”

Costa (13-1) hasn’t fought since he was stopped by middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in September.

Vettori (17-5-1), meanwhile, is also coming off a loss to Adesanya, who defeated him by decision in June.
