Rashad Evans Says Daniel Cormier Could be Next
By FCF Staff
Daniel Cormier continues to prepare for his light-heavyweight debut, and although it remains to be seen who the highly regarded fighter will face, Rashad Evans says it could be him.
According to multiple reports, Evans relayed on the latest edition of “UFC Tonight” that he’s heard Cormier could be his next opponent. Evans is coming off a quick stoppage win over Chael Sonnen at UFC 167 last weekend, after earning a split decision victory over Dan Henderson at UFC 161 in June.
Immediately after Cormier decisioned Roy Nelson at UFC 166 in October, there was speculation that the renowned wrestler could fight Alexander Gustafsson in his light-heavyweight debut. The latter, however, will fight Jimi Manuwa on March 8th in London.
Recently Cormier was asked on Twitter if he had “any idea” as to who he would fight next, and “DC” responded ” yes 205 not top 20 top 5.”
The division’s top five fighters include the #1 ranked Gustafsson, #2 Glover Teixeira, #3 Evans, #4 Phil Davis and the #5 Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. The latter, whoever, is still sidelined with a back injury. Teixeira will challenge light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones next, on a date yet to be determined.
