IFC Preview By Keith Mills IFC Warriors Challenge XVIII takes place tonight in Lakeport, CA. Last word was the card is as follows: Rick Morano vs. Rudy Hernandez Both the main events feature fighters that are soon fighting in other high profile shows with Jeremy Jackson already scheduled to fight Dennis Hallman in UFC in September and Benji Radach scheduled to fight "Ximu" Machado in King Of The Cage in Reno in August. A loss for Radach wouldn’t keep him out of KOTC, but a loss for Jackson might jeopardize his UFC chances, adding extra drama to this rematch between two of the top 170-pounders on the verge of breaking out. Jackson/Diaz is garnering most of the attention not only because of Jackson’s upcoming UFC debut, but also because their first fight was in the finals of an 8-man tournament back when they didn’t know much about each other. Now they have had plenty of time to train specifically for each other and the results are far from certain. Both these two put on spectacular performances in WEC 6 earlier this year with Jackson going the distance with Shonie Carter while Diaz ended his fight with Joe Hurley with an unforgettable Kimura shown on the cover of the April issue of Full Contact Fighter magazine. Diaz is one of four Team Cesar Gracie fighters tonight, with Steve Heath being one of the others in his Middleweight title fight against Victory Athletics’ Benji Radach. Radach is coming up a weight class for his first fight at 185 while Heath is the former IFC Light Heavyweight Champion dropping down. With training opportunities for Heath being with ADCC invitee David Terrell and IFC World Welterweight Champion and UFC vet Gil Castillo while Radach trains with the phenomenal Dennis Hallman this one is bound to be a barnburner. To round out the title fights, Extreme Challenge and Ring Of Fire standout Amanda Buckner takes on Jacqueline Andrade, the woman who won the BJJ Pan Ams this year. Both of these 135-pounders have interested fans of the women’s divisions for months and represent the next wave of challengers to the likes of Jennifer Howe and Debi Purcell. For the IFC Light Heavyweight U.S. title, AKA Fight Team’s Southworth takes on Impact Martial Arts’ Vanderwalle. With four titles and thirteen fights, it’s going to be a long night, but well worth the price of a ticket. |
