Although Aaron Simpson will not fight Jon Fitch next as he hoped, the vet will take on another of the welterweight division’s more resilient competitors in Mike Pierce.
The bout will be part of the upcoming, October 5th UFC on FX 5 card in Minneapolis, according to a report from MMA Fighting.
Simpson (12-3) is coming off a successful welterweight debut, as the former middleweight defeated Kenny Robertson by unanimous decision at a UFC on FUEL card in July.
Pierce (14-5) worked his way to a UD win over Carlos Eduardo Rocha in June, after losing by split decision to Josh Koscheck at UFC 143 in February.
Authentic Sports Management also announced Wednesday that lightweight Abel Trujillo (9-4) has signed with the UFC, and that he will make his Octagon debut at UFC 151 on September 1st in Las Vegas.
Wednesday night, Tim Means confirmed reports via his Twitter account that he will fight Trujillo at the event.
Means (18-3) is coming off an impressive, first round stoppage of Justin Salas at UFC on FX 3 in June.
Trujillo (9-4) competed last on June 30th, and worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Frank Carrillo while fighting for Championship Fighting Alliance.
